Platform & Initiatives
Waller County is contiguous to Harris County, which is the 3rd largest county in the country. Waller County is growing at a rapid rate, leaving a lot of government offices struggling to keep up. If we do not take a proactive approach to this issue, Waller county will be in a rut of trying to catch up for years to come.
The sheriff’s office is a government office that must be proactive. Currently, the Waller County Sheriff’s Office is not implementing up to date technology. Our patrol cars currently do not have in car computers, which enables our deputies to properly and efficiently do their job. In this day and age coupled with the expected growth of our county, not having in-car computers cripples our deputies. With the lack in-car computers our deputies must spend more time on the radio with dispatch tying to gather information, rather than having direct access to the important information they need. This also causes our deputies to have to return to the office to write up their reports after leaving a service call. This takes away precious time our deputies have to be patrolling our community.
I believe that training is imperative to every deputy. The more training a deputy has that better he will be at making informed decisions in any given situation. Waller County is a large county that should have a training program. I will implement a training schedule to help our deputies with certifications as well as industry education.
If elected your Sheriff of Waller County, is it my job to maintain the wellbeing or our inmates. I would like to implement more training and safety procedures for our deputies and treatment of our inmates. Remember, all inmates are presumed innocent until proven guilty and I want to make sure my staff is trained and educated to remember that as well.
I would like to address the issues of trust and transparency the citizens of Waller County have with the our sheriff’s office. Over the past few years there have been several incidences in which the community became upset with the sheriff’s office, not for what the Waller County Sheriff’s Office did wrong, but how this office handled these incidences.
If elected as your new Waller County Sheriff, I would like to address the professional image our department displays to our community. Currently, we have several different types of uniforms as well as several different types of patrol vehicles. I would like to implement consistency from our uniforms to our vehicles. That way our deputies are recognized as Waller County Deputies whenever they are seen. Having a uniform and patrol vehicle that is recognizable to our community makes our citizens feel safe, which is our ultimate goal.
Currently, we (the people) are not getting the opportunity to have the best men and women in our department protecting our community. The current hiring process of the “good ole boys” cannot stand. There may be a more qualified candidate for the position, but in the current office, your credentials may not matter if the current sheriff is friends with you or your family. I want to implement a proven hiring process, not only one for the open patrol spots, but for the other positions within the department as well. I want to implement testing for supervisor positions, not just give it to a deputy without the proper training and experience. Waller County Sheriff’s Office should have these proper hiring procedures in place. Our community deserves to have the very best to protect and serve us.
